Well I finally had a chance to play around with adding del.icio.us bookmarks to this blog, you can see them here. Greywolf put up one or two excellent posts on the subject which pushed me to give it a try. To paraphrase Michael, the main reasons are:
- These del.icio.us pages are showing up well in the SERPs
- It’s a good way of keeping tabs on what your network/peers/friends are reading
- Gets rid of the need for “check this out” emails or regurgitating the same old news
- On some topics these tagged pages are becoming better than the SERPs themselves
On the technical side, I would recommend using John Wrana’s del.icio.us Tag-Cloud II wordPress plugin. That made the process pretty simple. However I did find the API address needed to be changed from http://del.icio.us/api/tags/get/ to https://api.del.icio.us/v1/tags/get to get things running.
